OUR PROGRAMS

EARLY EDUCATION & PRESCHOOL

Christian American School Pre-School Program

Our program is based on the Preschool Learning Foundations from California. Our staff is composed of professional American and Guatemalan teachers trained in early childhood education.

Our goals for your child include:

  1. That your child be involved in daily activities which allow him or her to gain experience in social, emotional, cognitive skills, physical endurance and the establishment of the foundation for strong spiritual growth and values.

  2. That your child would be respected for his or her own personality and that your child be held in high regard.

  3. To foster curiosity, language skills, perceptual acuity and problem-solving skills.

  4. To encourage each child to express his/her feelings

  5. To provide a safe, warm, accepting environment in a Christian setting. A strong emphasis is placed on the family - school relationship.

Finally we have one goal for you:

  6. Please communicate to us any comments or questions you may have as parents!

We are a half-day preschool. Our morning session begins at 7:45 a.m. and is over at 12:30 a.m.

  • Toddlers: 2 year olds

  • Nursery: 3 year olds

  • Pre-Kinder: 4 year olds

There are ten to eighteen children in each classroom with an English teacher and a Guatemalan assistant. Our Pre-K and Kinder class has up to 18 children. Children bring a snack each day to eat at 9:30. Our campus has plenty of games and playground areas for your child to play from 10:00 to 10:30 am.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

All students begin each day in the Chapel with a daily Devotional and prayer and students also participate in Chapel on Wednesdays where we sing, pray and worship the Lord together. Students in grades 1-6 receive instruction in English in language arts, math, science, social studies, Bible and art. For language arts we use Reading Street from Pearson and for math we use My Math from McGraw-Hill publishers.

The curriculum is tightly aligned with the U.S. Common Core standards. Students also receive daily instruction in Spanish in Comunicacion y lenguaje,  sociales, computers and physical education from native Spanish speakers. In addition to regular classes, we provide special programs in physical education for students on Fridays. In the first semester students can choose between gymnastics at Olympika Gym or soccer at Soccer World.
In the second semester students have the opportunity to take swimming lessons at Swim and Gym.

Our faculty is comprised qualified American and Guatemalan teachers. The majority of the teachers have lived and taught internationally, and are very experienced educators who are focused on student learning. Through both our curriculum and teaching methods, the school aims to develop the intellectual, emotional and physical potential of each child in a welcoming, secure, stimulating Christian environment.

MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL

Our Middle School and High School serve students ages 11–18 in grades 6-12.

From 7-12 grade students receive instruction in both English and Spanish every day. English teachers use the U.S. Common Core Standards to guide instruction and Spanish teachers adhere to the requirements of the Guatemalan Ministerio to ensure that upon graduation, students are well-prepared to enter college either in Guatemala or in the United States. For special classes students have the opportunity to study Bible, music, dance/drama, P.E., and computers/technology. All students begin each day together in the Chapel with a Devotional and also participate on Wednesdays in Chapel where we pray, sing, and worship the Lord together.

Classroom learning experiences are enhanced by numerous field trips in Guatemala City and the surrounding area. The school is a member of ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) and participates in activities organized by them. The Middle and High School have frequent events to bring our community of teachers, parents and students together to celebrate learning, to give our students the opportunity to demonstrate their communication and other skills, and to build a stronger community.
